Kagawa University

Characteristics

SC EN AG
Through world-class education and research activities, we train creative and humane professionals and researchers, lead local communities, and contribute to the realization of a symbiotic society.
Agriculture is a comprehensive science with life, environment and food as the key words.
The Faculty of Agriculture of Kagawa University covers a wide range of basic research fields, including not only conventional agriculture, but also applied research, such as improving the productivity of agricultural products, product processing and biological production, and related social principles and environmental protection.
Agriculture is a field related to life, biological resources, environment and food. It is one of the "life science" fields of education and research from genes to individuals.

Applied Life Science Course

The Department of Applied Life Sciences of the Faculty of Agriculture of Kagawa University has set up the following five specialized education courses (Applied Life Science, Bioresource Production Science, Environmental Science, Bioresource Chemistry & Functional Chemistry, Food Science), covering a wide range of fields related to our overall life, that students can choose the major they want to study in stages.

After graduating from the course study, students will choose one of the 60 laboratories to engage in research on the subject and obtain specialized problem-solving skills. In addition, there is also a master's program in the graduate school and a doctoral program in United Agriculture. Each student will step into the society with a highly specialized talent. If you are interested in life, biological resources, environment and food, why not study and grow together in the Faculty of Agriculture, Kagawa University? We welcome everyone who wants to fly in the world and target researchers and engineers!

■Applied Life Science Course
From microorganisms to higher plants and even higher animals... and other organisms as objects, a wide range of learning from the basics of life sciences to applied technologies.

■Bioproduction Science Course
Learn about improved varieties, production technology, environment, product distribution and system use, with the goal of developing and producing horticultural resources, bringing a safe and stable food supply, and enriching life

■Environmental Science Course
The characteristics of the individual organisms that make up the ecosystem, the interaction with the environment, and the environment and the physical circle, especially the Satoyama/Caspian Sea as the main object, to learn the methods of chemistry/biology in specific fields and laboratories

■Bio-resource Chemistry anf Functional Chemistry Course
Understand the functions of organisms from a chemical point of view, learn chemistry methods to explore useful chemical substances in organisms, and clarify their molecular structure, mechanism of action, and biosynthesis.

■Food Science Course
To understand the physiological regulation function, functionality, safety and taste of known foods scientifically, and to cultivate human resources who can develop safe, and delicious high-function foods.
The only major of the Faculty of Agriculture (https://www.ag.kagawa-u.ac.jp/) is Applied Life Sciences, which is a course-basis programme. After enrollment, all students will first take basic subjects and common subjects to learn fundamental biological sciences. During this period, students have to decide the direction of their studies. Starting from the second semester of 2nd year, there will be 5 course for students to choose:"Applied Life Science Course", "Bioproduction Science Course", "Environmental Science Course", "Bioresource Chemistry and Functional Chemistry Course" and "Food Science Course". Students can therefore learn professionally and systematically.
